What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are restorative options that are capable of replacing your entire missing tooth; this includes your tooth and your tooth root! This makes your smile much healthier by stimulating a natural component of your oral anatomy: your jawbone. Implants are so unique due to their ability to bond with your jawbone and truly last a lifetime. Implants are composed of three separate pieces; an implant post, an abutment, and a custom-made crown.

The Implant Process

The process for having an implant placed may differ from patient to patient; because every smile is unique, so too are the requirements. To learn what your process may be for having implants placed, we invite you to contact our office in Kinston, NC, and schedule your free consultation! To gain a general understanding of the dental implant process, read the following!

First things first! Before we get started placing your new implants, it is important for us to get to know you, your goals, and what you need to ensure the procedure is successful. Understanding your procedural requirements will necessitate the use of an x-ray; using this, we can determine the presence of bone loss and the health of remaining teeth. We are also able to map out the precise location of your new implants.

It is possible that based upon our assessment we may recommend treatment before placing you under anesthesia; if we find that you have bone loss, gum disease, or unhealthy teeth within your dental arch, these problems will need to be addressed first. Going into surgery with a healthy mouth will maximize your chances of a great outcome!

During the placement procedure, we will ensure you are comfortable and pain-free under the influence of anesthesia. We will then create small incisions in the gum tissue above the area where implant placement has been planned. Once the implants are appropriately placed, your gum tissue will be sutured closed for a period of healing.

After a period of three to six months, your implant should have time to bond with the surrounding jawbone. The implant post is made from a biocompatible material, allowing it to fuse to your natural anatomy. We will finish the entire restoration off by securing an abutment to the implant post, then attaching your new restorative piece (dental crown, dental bridge, or full arch prosthetic) to the abutment.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants have many benefits due to the fact that they are so similar to natural teeth! Unlike other restorations, there are no tedious extra maintenance steps, no removable pieces, and no worrying about them coming loose. Implants are truly built to last a lifetime! When you choose implants, you get your life back. Other benefits of the restoration include:

Incredible Appearance

Durable & Dependable

Preserves Jawbone

The Cost of Dental Implants

Just as the process may be different for each patient, the cost may be different as well. This is due to the variety of factors that can influence the surgery or needs of the particular patient; such as the number of teeth missing, the need for preliminary treatment, or the types of implants chosen.
